生物老年學在對衰老現(xiàn)象的認識方面已經(jīng)形成了堅實的科學基礎(chǔ)。在細胞、組織、器官和生物體水平上，越來越多地采用一系列新的和創(chuàng)新的戰(zhàn)略和方法來調(diào)節(jié)衰老過程。生物老年學代表了研究的這一步，其主要目標是實現(xiàn)健康的老年生活和延長壽命。重點是試圖了解如何預(yù)防、治療或最小化與年齡相關(guān)的損害。健康老年科學需要有自己的平臺來提出新的理念，并鼓勵在這方面進行創(chuàng)新大膽的科學出版實驗操作。因此，生物老年學為發(fā)表原始研究數(shù)據(jù)提供了一個同行評議的論壇，新的想法和討論:通過物理、化學和生物手段調(diào)節(jié)衰老過程，包括轉(zhuǎn)基因和敲除生物體;細胞培養(yǎng)系統(tǒng)，開發(fā)新的方法和保健產(chǎn)品，以維持和/或恢復(fù)失去的生化功能;免疫、自身免疫與老年感染脊椎動物、無脊椎動物、微生物和植物，用于老化和長壽的遺傳決定因素的實驗研究;生物人口學和老化與存活動力學的理論模型。生物老年學將發(fā)表:原始研究報告;回顧假設(shè)、新方法和訪談;與老化、健康和長壽有關(guān)的專題。

Biogerontology has now developed a solid scientific base with respect to the understanding of the phenomenon of aging. A spectrum of new and innovative strategies and approaches are being increasingly applied to modulate the process of aging at the level of cells tissues organs and organisms. Biogerontology represents this step in research which aims primarily at achieving healthy old age accompanied by improved longevity. The focus is on attempts to understand prevent cure or minimize age-related impairments. The science of healthy old age requires its own platform to bring forward new ideas and to encourage the scientific publication of innovative and bold experimental manipulations in this regard. Biogerontology therefore provides a peer-reviewed forum for publishing original research data new ideas and discussions about: Modulating the aging process by physical chemical and biological means including transgenic and knockout organisms; Cell culture systems to develop new approaches and health care products for maintaining and/or recovering the lost biochemical functions; Immunology autoimmunity and infection in aging; Vertebrates invertebrates micro-organisms and plants for experimental studies on genetic determinants of aging and longevity; Biodemography and theoretical models linking aging and survival kinetics. Biogerontology will publish: original research reports; reviews hypotheses new methods and interviews; special issues on specific topics relating to aging health and longevity.
